Pies For Tries

Peter’s Food Service played their part in Wales’ World Cup victory over Japan by performing a Welsh ritual on 6,000 pies delivered to the Millennium Stadium ahead of the big game.
The pies – which were prepared, baked, and delivered to the stadium on the day of the match – had the Welsh National Anthem sung into them by the 450 staff at the Bedwas HQ of Peters Food Service.
The idea was the brainchild of one of Peter’s employees and self-confessed rugby fan, Darren Evans from Porthcawl. He said: “I heard Max Boyce saying that if Wales was to have any chance of reaching the semi finals, they’d really need the crowd behind them.
“We’re one of the biggest employers in the Valleys and of course, we’re behind Wales 100% so we thought we’d add an extra ingredient into the pies this month.”
The first anthem was sang the night before Wales faced Australia. Sadly the anthem filled pies didn’t carry the Welsh squad to victory on that occasion but by the time the squad faced Japan the staff at Peter’s were packing the pies with passion.
Darren said:
“It’s all about practice I think. By the time Wales faced Japan the staff were singing the anthem into the pies like professionals, they were definitely packed with Welsh pride.”
