During his hugely successful career, Julien worked for iconic labels including Chanel and Lagerfield before setting up his own label, leading to the award for British Fashion Designer of the Year in 2001 and his appointment as successor to Alexander McQueen as Creative Director of renowned French Fashion house, Givenchy.

In 2006, Julien was awarded the OBE for services to the fashion industry but he’s clearly never forgotten his roots – or his love of a good pie!

Sausage catching, paw pampering and a hair of the dog raffle were all part of the fun and games at a special event to raise money for Cardiff Dogs Home; supported by Peter’s.

The Cardiff Dogs Home Spring Show and Fayre took place at St Albans RFC in Tremorfa, Cardiff.

Organised by Friends of Cardiff Dog’s Home to raise money for a kennel refurbishment, the event saw supporters enjoying a range of stalls and games, including a special display by Celtic K9 Security.

The Friends of Cardiff Dogs Home organisation was set up in order to better the lives and standard of living of the dogs that reside at the home. Friends help to re-home the dogs, arrange for volunteers to walk them, promote responsible dog ownership and highlight the work done by the Dogs Home itself. The ultimate aim is to make the time spent in the kennels as bearable and comfortable as possible for each and every dog.

Peter’s supplied a range of more than 200 products for sale at the event, as well as supplying sausages for the star event – a sausage catching competition for dogs at the home.

“We had a fabulous day with a fantastic turn out and we were delighted to raise such an amazing sum.

“The Peter’s sausage rolls and pasties were definitely a big hit – we completely sold out – and the sausage catching competition was the highlight of the day. We’d like to thank everyone involved for their kind support.”

Speaking about the event, Peter’s Marketing Controller Clare Morgan said: “We were really pleased to support this fantastic and fun event and wish the Friends of Cardiff Dogs Home the best of luck with their future fundraising.”

Wales’ tastiest rugby player Jamie Roberts has returned to his roots – in the form of pastry.

A giant food mosaic of the Welsh Six Nations Grand Slam superstar has been presented to his old primary school, Ysgol Y Wern by Caerphilly-based pie-maker Peter’s. The 1.2 metre tall pastry tribute was commissioned by Peter’s as a celebration of Welsh rugby and created by full time ‘food artist’ Prudence Staite. It uses a variety of Peter’s savoury snacks as well as peppercorns for Jamie’s famous designer stubble, and red chilli flakes and peppers for his Wales jersey. The mosaic weighs almost 35kg and took a team of five 50 hours to make from start to finish.

Peter’s Marketing Controller Clare Morgan presented the piece of food art to Ysgol Y Wern’s headteacher, Mrs Moira Kellaway, and pupils – all of whom have had rugby trials for Cardiff schools and hope to follow in Jamie’s footsteps – Craig Miller, Rhys Mackenzie, Casey Davies, Aled Evans and Daniel Thomas.

The school will now proudly display the extraordinary mosaic of their protégé former student as the ultimate reminder of Wales’ Six Nations Grand Slam success.

Clare Morgan said: “We supported Jamie the whole way through the Six Nations campaign and thought that creating this unique rugby memento would be a fun way to remember his, and the team’s, success.

“The likeness of the mosaic is truly astounding, and we are delighted to have been able to take Jamie back to where his rugby career began.”

Mrs Kellaway said: “As a school we can celebrate not only Jamie’s sporting excellence but also his academic achievements and aspirations. The mosaic was proudly displayed in the school’s dining room in the run up to Wales’ decider match against France and throughout the post-celebrations.”

Speaking from the Wales training camp about having a food portrait displayed in his former school, Jamie Roberts said: “I’m flattered, I’ve never had a portrait of me made out of food before; this is certainly a first. When I showed it to some of the other Welsh players it brought a few smiles and, as you can imagine, a few jokes that’s for sure. This was a really cool idea and it looks like a lot of time and effort went into making it – and I must admit, it looks just like me!”

Peter’s sausage rolls and slices helped fuel a team of walkers on a special fundraising journey from Caerphilly to Cardiff recently.

Starting at the famous Tommy Cooper statue in Caerphilly, a team of more than 40 walkers trekked over Caerphilly Mountain in to Cardiff City Centre, to raise money for Velindre Cancer Centre.

The walk was organised by Caerphilly resident Clive Pike, whose wife, Rowena, is undergoing treatment for breast cancer at Velindre Hospital.

The event raised £5,574.58 for the charity, which helps fund the largest non-surgical cancer hospital in Wales, providing radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other specialised anti-cancer treatments for over half the people diagnosed with cancer in Wales.

Speaking about his idea for a sponsored walk, Clive said “I was sat in reception at Velindre Hospital one day and thought about what I could give back to the hospital, because the team are amazing.”

Clive, 40, who is a full-time carer for Rowena, posted a message on his facebook page asking for people to take part in a sponsored walk, and received an incredible response from friends and family.

Everyone completed the walk, which took three and a half hours from start to finish.

Speaking about Peter’s backing for the event, Marketing Controller Clare Morgan said: “We were delighted to support the walkers at such a worthwhile fundraising event. We would like to congratulate everyone who took part and wish Clive and Rowena all the best.”

What makes a great British Banger? It’s a question that can get people heated throughout the country. Now, it looks like the problem may be finally resolved – by Peter’s Foods.

It all began when Manchester City’s award winning celebrity chef, John Benson-Smith, was approached by Welsh food giant, Peter’s Foods, to unearth the mystery of the perfect sausage.

The former Northern Chef of the Year recently performed a taste trial of the UK’s 16 leading sausages at the Etihad Stadium’s Legends’ Lounge – now he plans to create his own savoury masterpiece.
