First Minister sees Peter’s investment first-hand
Peter’s Food Service welcomed First Minister, Carwyn Jones, to its Bedwas production facility today (Thursday March 17) to see first-hand the significant developments being made at Wales’ best loved bakery.
Peter’s – creator of the iconic Peter’s Pies – made two key investments towards the end of last year in the form of a new pastry laminator and the addition of a brand new pie line to produce family size cutting pies. Peter’s Family Pies, available in Corned Beef and Minced Beef & Onion flavour, were launched across Tesco stores in Wales last month and also under their Seriously Tasty brand UK wide in Asda. The recent investment of almost £1million aims to continue the growth achieved by Peter’s over the last seven years, as well as increasing the number of fully employed members of staff from 650 to 850 during that time.
Commercial director for Peter’s, James Osgood, said: “Peter’s is one of the biggest food production employers based in Wales putting £20 million into the local economy in terms of payroll, and we were delighted that the First Minister visited us to see how we work and how we continually invest in our future development and growth.
“It was a privilege to show Mr Jones around our long established yet dynamic and growing business and explain about our more recent developments – we did also partake in some product sampling too.”
First Minister, Carwyn Jones, said: “It was great to see, first hand, how Peter’s are making their business a success. Their commitment to Wales with their recent investment and jobs growth is good for the Welsh economy as a whole. It’s also encouraging to see the good work they’re doing to support apprentices here in Wales, that’s something we welcome and support.”
Last month Peter’s secured a contract to supply Morrisons with seven Peter’s products distributed UK wide in the supermarket’s Deli Express, including the traditional pasty, a pork & pickle roll, a chicken pasty and the cheese & onion pasty. The company also recently announced it had acquired national gourmet hot dog business Mom’s Fabulous Foods.
