Olympic Swimmer Ieuan Lloyd to defend pie-eating title at Peter’s and George Thomas Event
Ieuan Lloyd got the gold medal for pie-eating when last year he was crowned the George Thomas pie-eating champion after eating 6 and a half pies in ten minutes.
This year, reigning champion Ieuan will be going for platinum, as he aims to break his record and eat 8 pies in ten minutes in the Peter’s Pie Eating Competition in Cardiff.
Ieuan said: “I’m really excited to take part in this year’s event with Peter’s and hope I can retain my championship title.
“With all my training, I should burn off the calories fairly fast!”
The event will be held at 7pm on Monday 24th February in Walkabout on St. Mary’s Street.
There are men and women’s challenges in two categories: fastest pie eaten and the most pies eaten in ten minutes.
Clare Morgan, Marketing Director for Peter’s said: “Ieuan is a very worthy opponent and we’re excited to see him apply his freestyle prowess to pie-eating! We wish all challengers the best of luck.”
Spectators can also enjoy a pie and a pint for £3 as the action unfolds.
Ex-champion boxer Nicky Piper, who is Events Manager for the hospice said: “The chosen pie for the evening is the Peter’s minced beef and onion, a favourite with the Welsh.
“Entry to the event is £3 with all funds raised going to the hospice.”
Radio Cardiff’s DJ Bobby Smooth will be hosting the evening, with funk soul band Brother Ray playing between rounds.
George Thomas supports up to 1000 cancer patients and their families every year, providing specialist home-based nursing, medical equipment, counselling and more.
There is no minimum level of sponsorship required to be a challenger. To take part, sign up on the evening or call Nicky Piper on 02920 524150.
