Peter’s celebrates Armed Forces Day with Help for Heroes fundraiser and Pie Drop event
Wales’s favourite pie maker is preparing to celebrate this year’s Armed Forced Day by running the Caerphilly 10K in aid of Help for Heroes and a big pie drop event across the country.
Last year, Peter’s mascot Pete the Pie made his running debut at the event, completing the course in a respectable 1 hour, 9 minutes.
This year, he will be joined by a 10-strong team of Peter’s pie-athletes.
Peter’s Marketing Director Clare Morgan said: “Armed Forces Day is less than a week after the run, and as it’s the centenary year of World War 1, this year’s event is all the more significant.
“We felt it was fitting to fundraise for Help for Heroes as we prepare for this year’s Caerphilly 10K. The important work they do cannot be underestimated, with the emotional, physical and financial support they offer to individuals and their families making a huge difference.
“We’re looking forward to having fun on race day whilst fundraising for such a worthy cause.”
After the run, Peter’s will be surprising recovery centres, armed forces charities, and support units across Wales and England with Big Pie Drops every day from Monday 23rd June – Friday 27th June in the week leading up to Armed Forces Day on Saturday.
A charity cake sale will also be held in the staff canteen towards the end of the June to raise more funds.
Peter’s Food Service Sales Director John McAughtrie said:
“Armed Forces Day is a great event that allows us to recognise the huge contribution made by those who serve.
“As well as fundraising for Help for Heroes, we thought a Big Pie Drop would be a fun way of showing servicemen and women, and the staff who commit to helping them, that they are appreciated. The pastries can be enjoyed by the teams themselves or used for fundraisers. Hopefully we’ll raise a few smiles.”
