Peter’s patriotic pie unveiled at the Royal Welsh Show
Visitors at this year’s Royal Welsh Show have helped to create a new pastry classic; by voting in their thousands for their favourite Welsh pie filling, announced at the show this week, and set to go on sale later this year.
Peter’s used their stand in the Festival of Food hall at this year’s to ask show-goers to name their top Welsh pie filling, choosing from a list including: Cheese, Ham, Leek and Potato; Steak and Welsh Ale; Corned Beef Pie; Steak, Peppercorn Sauce & Welsh Whiskey and Lamb and Redcurrant.
Pie fans across the country also voted online for their favourite filling, and the winner was announced by Peter’s today as Cheese, Ham, Leek and Potato Pie!
The pie uses only the tastiest Welsh ingredients including delicious Pembrokeshire ham, smothered in a rich creamy sauce made from extra mature welsh cheese, Welsh ale and double cream and generously filled with onions, potatoes and of course to top the ingredients list, the good old Welsh leek – giving this pie a truly Welsh flavour.
Peter’s Chief ‘Pieologist’, David Jackson, who creates Peter’s bakery recipes said: “We wanted to create a pie that was truly Welsh in flavour. From the best Welsh ales to world-famous Welsh lamb, Pembrokeshire potatoes and of course, Welsh leeks; Wales has wonderful food in abundance.“The Royal Welsh Show is a celebration of everything that’s great about Wales and our agricultural heritage, as well as a fantastic showcase for the best of Welsh food and drink; so who better to choose their favourite Welsh pie filling than the audience there this week?”
Clare Morgan, Marketing Controller at Peter’s said: “We’ve really enjoyed speaking to visitors at this week’s show and finding out what people think of our Welsh recipes. The Cheese, Ham, Leek and Potato pie is set to be one of our tastiest yet!”
